How many of you have set new years resolutions and then failed to keep them passed January?
Almost half of the UK population set new years resolutions but on average most Brits only stick to the new year resolutions for seven weeks.
Why is this?
New years resolutions often focus on giving up something. It is coming from a scarcity mindset rather than an abundance mindset (give up chocolate/ alcohol/nice food)
Focusing on what you want is more powerful (and more exciting meaning you are more likely to follow through). We often thing we need more motivation to stick to our new years goals.
Motivation is not the answer. Habit is
Setting up a habit is a much easier way of getting what you want from life. Getting something done that feels easy, natural and without thinking about it is the secret to achieving success in life.
Every year we get older and the wheel of time keeps spinning. We set a new year resolution and never accomplish it. The key is setting up a habit so it becomes harder not to do the task than actually doing it.
Writing a book was my main goal in 2018. The only way I could accomplish this task was to set up a daily habit.
I published Millennial Money Mindset: If you want the fruits you need the roots in 2019 after being shortlisted for the Financial Times writing prize in 2018. There was no way I could complete a book using only motivation.
There were too many distractions, too many emails to respond to and too many websites to waste my time reading. These other choices to occupy my time making writing a book, seemed like a momentous task.
I decided to set up a daily habit of writing for an hour as the first thing to do. This single decision, with daily action resulting in my book being an Amazon best seller in 2019.
How do we set up a habit? Doing this simple exercise could change your whole 2022 and beyond!
Picture yourself in 5 years time. What would your life be like if it was perfect?
How much money would you have in the bank?
Where would you be living?
What work would you be doing?
WRITE IT DOWN!
Studies show that by writing down your goal you can double your income in a lifetime.
Simply write down what you want to achieve and then work every day to achieve it.
It is that simple!
We overestimate what we can achieve in a year and underestimate what we can achieve in 5 years
Get what you Want From Life
The key to getting what you want from life is to start with the end in mind and then reverse engineer your life to get what you want
What would be your daily routine look like if you were living your perfect life?
Set up your day so it is easy for this to happen. The morning is the best time to achieve your highest value task (or set a time where you have an hour with no distractions).
Set a timer, turn off any distractions and focus on that single task
This is the key to achieving what you want in your life in 2022.
Habit is the answer not a new years resolution!
